- One of the most ancient cities in the world – 6 000 BC on the territory of today’s city appeared the first settlers. It is inheritor of several civilizations: the Prehistoric, the Thracian, the Hellenic – Roman, the Byzantine, the Slavic, the Bulgarian, the Ottoman, and the New Bulgarian.
- There are 4 prehistoric settlements on the territory of modern Plovdiv – Yasa Tepe, Brezovsko Shose, Dzhendem Tepe and Nebet Tepe.
- The biggest collection of archaeological treasures of the Ancient Thrace is kept in the Museum of Archaeology. Here is the most popular treasure found in the land of the Thrace – the Panagyurishte Treasure.

- One of the 12 preserved Roman Stadiums of the Delphian type in the world.

- In 1885 in Plovdiv started the Bulgarian book-printing.
- In 1878 Plovdiv was declared as capital of Eastern Rumelia. In 1885 here took place the Unification of the Principality of Bulgarian and Eastern Rumelia.
- In 1892 here was organized the first Bulgarian Exhibition, today – the International Fair, Plovdiv is the only fair city in Bulgaria.
